"Will travel for great BBQ."

I feel like that's the unofficial state motto for Texans. I mean, think about it... is there any distance you wouldn't drive to enjoy some awesome BBQ? I honestly don't think I have a limit! Which I guess makes me a real Texan.

This week we were joined by Jonathan Douglass of our Jay Marks Real Estate South office, at Ellis County BBQ in Midlothian - one of Jonathan's all-time favorite spots.

Ellis County BBQ is owned and operated by husband-and-wife team Dennis and Kari DeWeerd. Dennis is the creative brains behind the restaurant and competes in BBQ cookoffs all over the nation (he even has some trophies to prove it!), and Kari runs the operations side of the business.

Their "Real Texas BBQ" is made with only choice meats, seasoned with their award-winning rubs and sauces. And It. Is. Delicious.

Obviously one of the best ways to gauge how great a BBQ spot really is, is to try out their brisket. And Ellis County BBQ's brisket is off the charts amazing. They use prime Angus brisket which is much more tender than your average brisket. I mean, this stuff basically melts in your mouth!

Dennis has also found some creative ways to serve up their delicious BBQ. In addition to the classics, you can find brisket quesadillas, a fried bologna sandwich, brisket tacos and tater tot nachos.

Some of their other "must-try" items include their jalapeno cheese sausage and "The Hotties," which are chicken tenders wrapped up with bacon, jalapeno and pepper jack cheese.

But perhaps the greatest thing about Ellis County BBQ is the truly family-oriented atmosphere. Their website says "Dennis has never met a stranger," and we really believe that's true because Jonathan told us any time he and his family have eaten at Ellis County BBQ, they're always welcomed and greeted like they're part of the family.

So, go enjoy some classic and unique takes on Texas BBQ at Ellis County BBQ, Pull up a chair at the bar, order some drinks, watch the game, and stay a while. When you get there we're positive you'll want to!

*Ellis County BBQ is located at 700 Silken Crossing, #300, Midlothian, TX 76065.
