11 Top DFW Running Events for Fall 2020
While races and events may look a little different than they usually do this Fall, there are still plenty of them happening around the Metroplex! Here are some of the top DFW Running Events happening this Fall.
Frisco Arts Virtual Walk & Run
Where: Virtual
When: September 1-October 3, 2020
What: 5K
This year's Frisco Arts Walk & Run has been made virtual but will culminate with a Finisher's Fest Celebration on October 3 on Facebook and YouTube. This is a great opportunity to support the arts community which has taken a big hit during the coronavirus pandemic. Funds raised from the event will go towards an Emergency Relief Artists Fund, arts organization grants, and youth scholarships.
Oktoberfest Run und Ride
Where: Virtual, Fort Worth
When: September 1-October 31, 2020
What: 5K, 10K, 20-Mile Ride
The well-known Oktoberfest Run und Ride may be virtual this year, but you can follow the self-guided race map that includes special offers at businesses along the route so you can still celebrate Oktoberfest in style! Plus by completing the race, you'll still earn your commemorative medal, shirt, and bib!
Tour des Fleurs Quarter & Half Marathon
Where: Virtual
When: September 19-October 19, 2020
What: Quarter Marathon, Half Marathon
Hosted by the Dallas Arboretum, this year's Tour des Fleurs is allowing you to choose your own race course and is asking you to share beautiful views from your run with them via social! They know it's a little disappointing that the race isn't happening around White Rock Lake and at the Arboretum this year, but they've included general admission passes for you and 3 family members to the Arboretum with your race registration!
The Dogwood Canyon Audubon Center at Cedar Hill is located just 16 miles from Downtown Dallas and is part of the White Rock Escarpment. Here you'll find a wide variety of rare species because plants and animals from east, west and central Texas converge in this area.
You can hike on their more than two miles of trails into the forested canyon, ranging from the easy Canyon Floor Trail to the more strenuous West Loop Trail. Or if you're not up for a full hike, you can also enjoy their Nature Play Area which is a shady spot in the park set aside for children but also offers picnic tables and incredible views!
Disco Run 2020
Where: Fort Worth
When: October 3, 2020
What: 5K, 10K, Half Marathon
If you're a fan of dressing up for your runs, then you've got to check out the Disco Run happening in Fort Worth this October. They're giving out prizes for Best Male Costume and Best Female Costume. And all racers will get a commemorative DISCO shirt and a finisher's medal.
DRC Half Marathon & 5K
Where: Norbuck Park, Dallas
When: November 8, 2020
What: 5K, Half Marathon
This year's race will be the 45th Annual Dallas Running Club Half Marathon and 5K! With a picturesque setting around White Rock Lake, they're keeping the tradition of running along these beautiful trails just like they have since 1969.
Fort Worth Marathon
Where: Panther Island Pavilion, Fort Worth
When: November 8, 2020
What: Half Marathon, 20-Miler, Marathon
The Fort Worth Marathon is an annual fundraiser benefiting the Run Like a Cheetah program in Tarrant County which combats childhood obesity. The race is a flat out and back course and the event also includes live music, cash giveaways, food trucks and more. Because of the coronavirus pandemic this year, they are putting a registration cap on each race distance so that the trails don't become overcrowded.
Trinity River Run
Where: Virtual
When: November 14, 2020
What: 5K, 10K, Half Marathon
This year's sunset half marathon and nighttime 5K and 10K are going virtual this year on November 14. You can complete your run anywhere and earn your western-themed swag. If you're up for even more of a challenge, you may want to look into completing the Dallas Skyline Challenge where you run multiple distances for a special bonus medal.
Toyota Music Factory Half Marathon, 10K & 5K
Where: Texas Lottery Plaza at Toyota Music Factory, Irving
When: November 15, 2020
What: 5K, 10K, Half Marathon
As of September 11, they announced that the event is happening live and in-person as originally planned! All proceeds from these races go towards the Irving Police Association and along each of the courses you'll get to take in beautiful views of Las Colinas and Campion Trails. All racers will receive a finisher's medal and some additional swag depending on which race you complete.
Pumpkin Spice Run
Where: Panther Island Pavilion, Fort Worth & Virtual
When: November 21, 2020
What: 5K, 10K, Half Marathon
It doesn't get more "basic" than the Pumpkin Spice Run. The live event is unfortunately already sold out, but you can still register to participate in the virtual event and you can also add yourself to their wait list in case in-person spots open up! If you're a fan of Fall, you'll love the swag which includes a "Happy Fall Y'all" long-sleeve shirt and a Pumpkin Spice medal.
Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot
Where: Dallas & Virtual
When: November 26, 2020
What: 5K, 8-Mile
As of right now, the Dallas YMCA is planning on holding their traditional Turkey Trot in Downtown Dallas in addition to an at-home virtual option. But stay tuned to their website for updates on whether they obtain their permit from the City of Dallas or not. If the race can't happen in-person, everyone will be transferred to the virtual option. Hundreds of families come out every year for this event and whether it ends up happening at home or around Dallas City Hall Plaza like normal, it's sure to be a great time for the whole family!
Dallas Jingle All the 5K, 10K, 1K
Where: Trinity Groves, Dallas & Virtual
When: December 19, 2020
What: 1K Fun Run, 5K, 10K
This is the 2nd Annual event here in Dallas, but last year it was so much fun for the whole family and sold out! Starting at Trinity Groves, you'll get an awesome backdrop of Downtown Dallas throughout the race. And you'll be motivated to finish quickly to outpace the abominable snow monster! Participants receive a shirt, bib, and finisher's medal and there's also a post-race celebration complete with an appearance from Santa and refreshments!
