Ever just want to get out of the suburbs or the big city for a bit? Us too. Why not visit a pick your own farm or an orchard next time you need a little escape from the commotion?

You may not have known they exist, but here are several pick your own farms and orchards you can visit in the DFW Metroplex and surrounding areas.


Collin County

Pure Land Farm

Open Mid May-Mid July 2023

About: Pure Land Farm has one of the biggest selections of farm-fresh produce we've seen with carrots, cucumbers, blackberries, bell peppers, tomatoes, and even sunflowers. The farm is located just 10 minutes from Historic Downtown McKinney making it the perfect day trip to pick your own food and then visit some of the amazing shops and restaurants Downtown McKinney has to offer. You must book a time to visit Pure Land Farm using their website. They require reservations so they can keep lines short and to make sure you as their guests have plenty to pick when you visit.

Cost: $5 Day Pass per person

Cooke County

Lavender Ridge Farms

Open March-December 2023

About: If you'd like to visit a somewhat unique farm, check out Lavender Ridge Farms located in Gainesville where you can stroll through their gardens and lavender field and cut fresh bunches of lavender during blooming season (late May-July). You can also visit their adopted and rescued farm animals, enjoy birdwatching the dozens of migratory or native birds, or dine at their on-site cafe which includes drinks, desserts, lunch fare, and entrees inspired by lavender of course.

Larken Farms

Opens Mid-Summer for 2023 Season

About: If you're looking for a local farm for peaches, then this one's for you! This farm in Waxahachie has over 7,000 trees with 30 varieties of Texas and California peaches, Santa Rosa plums, Hosui Asian pears, and several hundred blackberry bushes. They also have a garden which grows a variety of vegetables. Stay tuned to their Facebook page for updates regarding the 2023 season!

WOW U-Pick Farms, LLC

About: Located northwest of Denton, WOW U-Pick Farms is unique in that it uses both traditional and hydroponic systems to grow its fruits and vegetables. In March and April, the farm usually has strawberries for picking. And then as it moves into the Summer/Early Fall season, you can find produce like tomatoes, bell peppers, okra, squash, and goji berries.

Pecan Creek Strawberry Farm

About: Is there anything cuter than little kids filling up a bucket of strawberries? Pecan Creek Strawberry Farm is located in Pilot Point and offers pick-your-own strawberries from about April to May, with peak harvest happening around May 1. There's no limit on how many strawberries you can take home, so take advantage of that first come first served thing. Stay tuned to their Facebook page for picking conditions on the day you want to go!

Blackland Berry Farm

About: This family owned and operated farm provides you-pick berries from June-early August. Berries you'll find include blueberries and several varieties of blackberries. And for a few months when it's not berry-picking season, you can visit their shaved ice stand for seasonal flavors!

Blase Family Farm

Opens in May/June for 2023 Season

About: In the summer season, you can visit Blase Family Farm for their pick-your-own blueberries and then in the Fall come back to visit their pumpkin patch! Stroll through their 1,600 blueberry bushes with the family and and pick a few pints to take home. In addition to picking blueberries, you an also visit the honeybees, enjoy a homemade popsicle, purchase some homemade soap, and order some of their lemon blueberry bread.
